Baths, bottles and books, oh my!

Pasha's first bath:

He did pretty well with the bath, crying a little at first but then settling into a quiet, but uncertain expression.

Also, Dad gave Pasha his first bottle of pumped breastmilk. He didn't seem to notice much difference and happily sucked away.

In the evenings Dad and Pasha hang out in the kitchen reading. Igor would sit down but when he does Pasha wakes up and gets fussy and squirmy...so he stands. After about 20 minutes Pasha is usually asleep enough that Igor can sit down. Usually. ;)

Week 3 with Pasha

Here is Pasha sleeping on mom:
And here he is in the new Moby baby carrier: (of course you can't really see him, but he is there!)

And he loves to play in the jungle themed baby gym for a few minutes everyday:This is an expression he often gives me. He actually raises one eyebrow as if to ask if I am crazy
Yay! Happy Pasha!
He looks a little skeptical of the giraffe here:

Happy Birthday Pasha!

Pasha's one-week birthday turned out to be a little too eventful. Grandma Pam had to leave late last night to fly back to Dallas because Grandpa Jim needed sudden, unexpected heart surgery. He came through just fine this morning and we are all grateful. Though Pasha misses Grandma Pam's singing and sponge baths and I miss her cooking and the comfort of having her here. And we are all sad that Grandpa Jim will not get to meet Pasha this week as planned. Hopefully he'll recover quickly and come visit soon.

We have no shortage of cute baby pictures, so here are a few more:

This is called a Pasha burrito:
Yesterday Pasha had his first doctor appt. While there, we had to keep him undressed for awhile for various measurements etc. and we got our first Pasha pee-sprinkler. Dad quickly stepped out of the way, but Mom was there to get things under control, unfortunately not before everything within a 1 foot radius got wet. Shortly thereafter while Mom was holding him wrapped in a blanket, he pooped in my hand. I'm proud to say that I did not drop him on the floor as instinct told me to, but held on to him, suffered the consequences and laughed quite a bit. Things we learned from this experience:
Clothes can be washed
Keep a diaper on the baby at all times
Next doctor visit, Dad holds Pasha.

Pasha has developed a distinct sleep/eat/awake&alert cycle in the past few days. After eating he usually hangs out, wide eyed and 'talkative' for about 20 minutes before going back to sleep. Since at his age he can't see complex shapes or many colors, but he can see contrast, I bought this fun picture board with black and white images on it. During his awake and alert phase this morning I put it next to him to see if he would like it. And boy did he!!

It's difficult to capture the fleeting smiles of a newborn or express the awesome cuteness of the sounds he made, but I hope these picture give you some idea.

Pasha's First Days

Brand new to this world, Pasha takes it all in.Me trying to teach Pasha to stick out his tongue so that we can breastfeed. He caught on pretty quick. :p

Arriving home:

The new mom with screaming (or is he yawning?) baby.

Igor spends a lot of time napping with Pasha on the sofa.
Kamikaze, though curious, maintains a respectful distance while getting her share of the cuddles.

Grandma Pam with Pasha. We are fortunate to have my mother here to help us these first few weeks. The house is cozy and warm smelling of home cooked food. She keeps us fed, helps with the baby when we are at a loss as to what to do and gives us plenty of time alone to bond as a new family.
